We supply an intensive family intervention service to help support
families and prevent children and young people having to leave
the family home. For councils and social services this avoids the
soaring costs and difficulties of caring for confused and vulnerable
young people within the care system. For the young people and
families we help our methods of addressing the sometimes
complex and deep-rooted issues at the heart of family and
individual dysfunction can make all the difference in the world.
Our family intervention programme provides ‘at risk’ families with
the high level of intensive support that they need. Our family
clients may be responsible for a disproportionate amount of antisocial
behaviour or need help to lift their children out of poverty.
By helping families make positive changes we can avoid their
dependants being taken into care and/or families losing their
tenancies, compounding existing problems still further.
Our services include:
 - Comprehensive Child and Family assessment
- Wrap-around services
- Family Team Meetings
- In-home Family Support Services
- In-home Case Management
- In-home Crisis Intervention
- Access to Parenting Classes
- Educational support and tutoring for excluded children
(or those at risk of exclusion)
- Providing a link to community services and resources
All services are family-focused, pro-active and rehabilitative.
We provide services either in the family home or at schools and
care environments using a range of approaches to support our
families through the change process. The initial programme is
intensive, but we will ‘step back’ as appropriate, remaining
available for on-going assistance through relapse stages.
Case study one:
We were asked by the Watford anti-social behaviour team
to engage with a family who were causing such a high level
of anti-social behaviour in the Watford area that two family
members created their own ‘hot spot’ designation.
We successfully engaged these two young people using various
approaches and it was noted that the inappropriate behaviour
ceased around the time of our engagement. The two young
people were integrated back into local services, schooling,
a college youth offending programme and a local community
motorbike project. One is currently on a training programme with
London Care Solutions aiming to become a learning coach and also recently
completed a Fitness Instructor course, passing the relevant exams
and completing an FA coaching course. The other young person
inspired us to start our very first community project – still up
and running – and is considering joining the army.
Case Study two:
John Smith* was introduced to us as a 10 year-old boy who had
been removed from the care of his mother and placed into
temporary foster care. At that time he had a tendency to display
high levels of anti social-behaviour, was involved in local petty
crime and was a regular cannabis user. He had been excluded from
his previous school and been out of education for almost a year.
London Care Solutions were initially asked to work with John in conjunction
with his foster placement as he was absconding back to
Hertfordshire on a regular basis and making insufficient progress.
A programme was designed which provided intensive mentoring
and support with the long-term aim of securing stability in John’s
personal circumstances and re-integrating him into a school
environment. We have worked closely with him for six months and
he is a charming and engaging young man who has risen to the
challenge and worked hard with the private tutor supplied by us.
He has successfully entered a new school on a part-time basis
and is making good progress. A learning coach from London Care Solutions
currently accompanies and supports him with his school lessons
and this will continue until such time as it is felt to be no longer
necessary. Most importantly for John, and with our support, he
re-established a stable relationship with his father and has
returned to live with him full time.
